Hi there👋,
With all the new updates brought in by Hotspotty, terms like:
Super simulations, locations, install and time travel may still be quite new to you.
That’s why this week’s blog will be dedicated to helping the community understand all the terms that are commonly used in the Hospotty and Helium Ecosystem.
Workspace: Everything inside Hotspotty happens inside a workspace, all the hotspots, locations, contacts, installs, members, etc…
Location: Locations represent physical addresses for planning and prioritizing future hotspot installs.
Contact: Contacts represent anyone facilitating your hotspot deployments and optionally get paid for their added value.
Install: Installs track the location at which a hotspot was installed over what period of time.
Commission: A commission defines how a contact should be paid for assisting with an install.
Commission template: Commission templates are configurations that can be used to speed up and standardize assigning commissions to contacts.
Commission report: Commission reports can be generated to calculate how much each contact is owed based on their commissions.
Contact payment: Contact payments are a way to track actual payments made to contacts for their commissions.
Payment method: Payment methods allow keeping track of where to send the payouts for each relevant currency. For example, PayPal, CashApp, Venmo, Wise, IBAN, etc…
FIAT: The term fiat currency is commonly used to distinguish regular money from cryptocurrency, a digital payment form that can exist without a central bank.
JSON: JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) is a standard text-based format for representing structured data based on JavaScript object syntax. It is commonly used for transmitting data in web applications (e.g., sending some data from the server to the client, so it can be displayed on a web page, or vice versa).
CLI: Command Line Interface connects a user to a computer program or operating system. Through the CLI, users interact with a system or application by typing in text (commands)
KLM: A file format used to display geographic data in an Earth browser such as Google Earth. KML uses a tag-based structure with nested elements and attributes and is based on the XML standard.
Line of Sight (LOS) : It is a tool built by Hotspotty which checks if two points on the map along with its altitudes can freely see each other. Proving line of sight is an accurate way to guarantee connectivity between two antennas
Time Travel : A Hotspotty feature that allows you to view a location’s timeline showing the developments of Hotspots within a geographical area.
Super Simulations: Through elevation profiles, Hotspotty can calculate which hotspots and other workspace locations have a clear line of sight from the given location at a specified height above the ground. This classification allows you to compare different locations and installation heights so that you can make an informed decision about your hotspot deployments.
Hexagons (hexes): While also a six-sided shape, is the underlying representation of the earth on the Helium network. Based on Uber’s H3 index, the surface of the earth can be represented by a grid of hexagons at different resolutions, with higher resolutions covering a larger area, and the smallest resolution covering centimeters of the earth. The more the Helium network grows, the more these hexagons are filled with hotspots. Hexes are commonly used to understand the scaling of the Helium network.
Hotspot: The physical hardware used for Helium mining.
Maker: Hotspot manufacturers approved by Helium.
HNT: HNT is a cryptocurrency earned when Hotspots provide and validate wireless coverage and transfer device data over the network.
Helium Improvement Proposal: (HIP) is suggestions made by the community which and if received enough support, are then implemented by the Helium network.
This page will be updated frequently with new terms.
